13. The Book of Romans

In this section of Romans 8 we see 3 groans or groanings. Paul moves us from calling Abba Father, children of God, heirs with Christ to suffering. Specifically Paul uses the word groaning. Verse 22, Paul says, that the whole creation groans and labors. Verse 23 says, we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. Then verse 26 says concerning the Holy Spirit, Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

3 groanings that lead to glory. This is a great promise from God that He is going to free ALL of creations from the struggle and suffering. In this life on earth, we all suffer – everyone. But for the believer the struggle with suffering is different. It is all forms of suffering. Suffering that comes from the flesh and the spirit to overcome the flesh; suffering that comes from persecution.
