A Church in the City – 1st Corinthians – part 31
Christians in Jerusalem were severely persecuted. Their persecution brought economic problems. Many homes were taken. Jobs were lost. Possessions were stripped away. Many were thrown into prison. It was impossible for the synagogues to keep up with the needs of the hurting and needy. An offering relieved a great amount of stress on the suffering. Something even greater was seen. The church was united. There was a oneness in helping those in need. Giving and receiving out of love and mercy forms a bond between the giver and receiver. You can’t give without sharing fellowship with someone.
